Since I became a member of the Lion’s fraternity back in 1964, I have in my collection and scores of certificates. It may seem like a collection of papers. Yet, every simple piece of certificate tells a story; be it an appointment, an appreciation, an award,  participation in an event, or even an acknowledgment of merit. For instance, a certificate from the Ministry of Health for a blood donation campaign is actually a recognition for the many painstaking hours in initiating, planning and executing the programme. It tells the story of a dedicated team of Lions putting the pieces together to realize a worthwhile community service – in securing the necessary funds and a sanitized venue, writing to various organisations and individuals, assessing the logistics and the necessary equipment, seeking professional health personnel and volunteers … just to name a few.

Some of these certificates hold a special place in my heart. One such certificate is the Five Star Governor Award given to District Governors who have excelled as an exemplary leader through commitment to the principals of Lions Club International. This distinguished service award is given by the Lions International President. It is not only a testament to my contribution to the community, more importantly, but it also exemplifies the commitment and dedication of the team that stood behind me.

Allow me to share some certificates as a progression of my journey with the Lions Movement.
